After a day of hiking at 28°C, I decided to reward myself with a swim in the lake, a meal and a cold shandy. The Three Merry Lads was the closest pub, so I decided to go for it, as didn't want to travel any further away. I did not pay attention to many details, as totally exhausted, but the service was impeccable. Once I asked if they could do vegan pizza for me, I had a straight yes as an answer, even if there was no vegan pizza on the menu. Pizza arrived within a few minutes and have to admit that ordering it, was one of the best ideas that day. The pizza was delicious, thin and crunchy. I was very surprised by how the cheese melted and how tasty it was. The lovely girls were checking on me from time to time asking if everything was fine or if I needed something else. They were lovely. I sat outside, as wanted to absorb even more fresh air and get dry after my dip in the lake. The view from the outside area was beautiful, straight onto some hills.
The car park was big enough to fit many cars. I did not use the facilities, so hard to say anything about the cleanness.
We were disappointed with the food at this country pub. The menu was large but the quality was not great. Meals don't come with any veg unless you pay extra, but the are not cheap, typically £15. My strogonoff had tough meat and was bland. My wife's stew was very thin, also tough beef and not very tasty. The location in the peaks is great, staff were friendly but the food needs to be better. A smaller higher quality menu would be better.
Great location and nice atmosphere inside. Food was terrible and had to ask for the table to be cleared and wiped down. It was cleared but never wiped down and it was filthy from the previous sitting!
I struggled to eat my burger with the bun having to be cut with a streak knife it was so tough! Everyone else left the majority of their food as well. Really disappointed as we were all really hungry.
Liked: It’s a pub car park. It doesn’t pretend to be anything else. We had a good meal in the pub, staff were friendly and accommodating. Even though it is very close to a road it was very quiet overnight. If you read the description and understand what is on offer you won’t be disappointed. Will stay again. Thank you .
Liked: Brilliant flat car park, stunning views over the Peak District. The pub staff are really friendly and the food was gorgeous. They do stop taking orders about 7.45pm, but they were still taking orders for pizzas.
Liked: Friendly welcome. Would have eaten but we we're off in to Sheffield. Staff book a taxi for us. …
Just been for Sunday lunch, overpriced for what it is.. Roast beef dinner bang average, beef was really really tough and chewy, like trying to eat a dog chew to be honest. Potatoes and veg not bad but they're not difficult to do are they.
Also the website says 2 courses for a certain price, the waitress agreed but when we paid that wasn't the case.. As a result the deserts were an extra £25 on top. They had run out of premium lager at 1pm on a Sunday so had to settle for Amstel.
Also the bins were massively overflowing next to the kids play area at the bottom of the car park, and there was what looked like a huge pile of rubbish on the field.
Don't mind paying top money for good food and drinks etc but sadly this was not the case.
Very disappointing and overpriced for the quality of the food.
Liked: We came up for our daughter’s graduation so this was a great location for Sheffield. Bus every 15 minutes in to city. Fantastic walks from the pub door. Perfect for dogs. Friendly & chilled. …
